Andrew Beadnall, founding partner of leading independent estate
agents Beadnall Copley, has been voted Business Personality of the
Year at the Business Awards organised by the Ackrill Media Group in
association with NatWest Bank.
Against a strong field of candidates for the Business Personality of
the Year award, the judges were particularly impressed not only with
Andrew's exceptional business achievements, but also his tireless
work for charity.
The judges commented: “Rather than just giving passive support to
good causes, we liked Andrew's very active hands-on approach to
supporting charities. He has been instrumental in helping to raise
hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Cookridge Cancer Centre
Appeal, and we also recognised his hard work in helping to provide
sporting opportunities for under privileged children.
"Andrew's impressive business acumen in developing a high achieving
estate agency business is also in evidence in the success he has
also achieved in his charity work. A very worthy winner."
Andrew has enjoyed a long and distinguished career; he launched
Beadnall Copley with business partner David Copley in the early
1990s against all advice because of the great economic uncertainty
in the UK but quickly established it as one of the fastest growing
estate agencies in the region, today regularly ranked by independent
research as the top selling agent with the largest market share*.
Andrew: “It is a great honour to win this award and I feel
particularly flattered when I look at the calibre of those I was
shortlisted against. Thanks must go to those who supported me – I’ve
worked in Yorkshire for 35 years – including 17 years under my own
name - and I am proud of being part of such a vibrant and strong
business community.
“When we started we didn’t have a house to sell but people had
confidence in us and gave us their houses, coming back to us again
and again and recommending us to others and it’s to those people I
give my sincere thanks, for without the support of them, and that of
my business partner and staff, I wouldn’t be enjoying this success
tonight.”
Since launching Beadnall Copley the company has grown substantially;
during 2007, a time for an industry-wide cooling of the property
market, Andrew developed a number of ‘key differentiators’ -
innovative marketing and customer service initiatives - to grow
market share which resulted in the best-ever sales in the first six
months of last year and the Wetherby branch, where Andrew is based,
experiencing sales 37% up on the previous year. Under Andrew’s
direction the Wetherby office has just won the third successive Top
Selling Agent award by independent research with 36% of the market*.
The firm were also winners of two ‘Best Marketing Campaign’
accolades at Yorkshire’s Finest Property Awards in November, beating
entries from local and national estate agents and the only agent to
win two marketing awards at this major event.
Prior to starting Beadnall Copley Andrew was a director with Dacre
Son and Hartley and the youngest-ever senior manager with the then
pioneering Whitegates, being instrumental in building up a 60% share
of the market.
Andrew has also played a key role in raising funds in the fight
against cancer. As a former Committee Member for the Cookridge
Cancer Centre Appeal he was instrumental in helping to raise
hundreds of thousands of pounds and breaking all records for this
deserving cause.
He is also Chairman of The Hunslet Cricket, Football and Athletic
Club Trust which ensures sport thrives in the south Leeds region
working with forty-plus sporting organisations including schools and
Boys and Girls Clubs to bring sport to underprivileged children in
the area.
Married with a son, Andrew lives near Wetherby. A Taverner Club
member at Headingley and a keen rugby enthusiast of both codes;
Andrew is also a life-long supporter of Leeds United.
