About Ripon

Termed ‘the Cathedral City of the Dales’, Ripon has a rich history dating back over 1000 years. This small but vibrant city ran its own justice system and policed its own streets – each day the Ripon Hornblower still ‘sets the night’ watch in the Market Place.

The city and surrounding areas have seen a big increase in property prices recently; there is much investment in the city and the upgrading of the A1/M1 link has put Ripon on the map for people wanting to commute to Leeds and the North East.

Ripon Grammar School was recently ranked in the UK’s Top 100 schools, which is further fuelling Ripon’s popularity. Further information on schools in the area can be obtained here

The city offers a wealth of entertainment, culture and sights including the magnificent cathedral, which hosts choral concerns and music festivals, Ripon races and the recently developed canal basin with its marina. The ancient Market Place which is flanked by fine Georgian buildings is alive with bistros, restaurants and pubs with fascinating shops and tea rooms.

Steeped in heritage, the nearby Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden provide a superb place for history, wildlife and walking. Ripon is an increasingly popular location for homebuyers and visitors alike.
